How we research

Cozy doesn't mean careless.

New Jersey Port guides are planning guides. They help you choose where to spend a slow Saturday, then send you straight to the place itself for the details that change.

Where facts come from

  • The business's or organizer's own website, menu and official social accounts.
  • Official sources: NJ State Parks, the National Park Service, county and town tourism offices, and official visitor bureaus.
  • Reputable local news for openings, closures and history.

What we never do

  • Invent visits, tastings, ratings or quotes.
  • Print opening hours, prices or fares, which change too often to be useful on a static page.
  • Accept payment to include a place or to change what we say about it. If that ever changes, sponsored content will be labeled clearly at the top of the page.

Amenities

Wi-Fi, outdoor seating, dog-friendly and similar notes appear only when the place itself says so. When a place doesn't say, we leave it out instead of guessing.

Keeping guides current

Every place carries the date it was last verified. Evergreen guides are re-checked at least every 90 days, and seasonal guides (Christmas markets, light shows, fall foliage) before each season. A guide's "Updated" date only changes when its facts are re-checked.

Our host

Tessa Moretti is New Jersey Port's virtual host, a character who narrates the guides. She has no first-hand experiences, and the guides never claim she does.

Who publishes New Jersey Port

New Jersey Port is published by Chefbouyon, an independent media company with a team based in New York City and the Caribbean. It's a team of real people: researchers, writers, editors, photographers and graphic designers.

  • Researchers gather and verify the facts from places' own sites and official sources.
  • Writers draft the guides.
  • Editors edit and fact-check every guide by hand, approve it for publication and handle corrections.
  • The visual team art-directs the site's images and builds its maps and design.

Nothing is published without human review. Tessa is the voice; the Chefbouyon team does the work and stands behind it.

The Sunday Port

One slow weekend idea, every Sunday morning.

A town, a café, a walk and a book to bring, plus what's on that weekend. Free, short, easy to leave.
