Hoboken is a mile-square city with a coffee habit to match its size. Every block of Washington Street seems to have a café tucked between a bakery and a bar, and the side streets hide even more. This guide is for the day-tripper stepping off the PATH, the new resident still learning which corner is which, and anyone who wants their coffee with a side of skyline. I've arranged it the way most people move through Hoboken. You start downtown by the terminal and work your way north to uptown, so you can pick a café that fits wherever you happen to be.

How I picked these
These picks come from research, not first-hand visits. Each café was checked against its own website or recent local coverage in 2025–2026 and is open as of this update. I looked for a spread across downtown, midtown and uptown, a mix of roasters and bakery-cafés, and places that say clearly what they serve. Hours change often, so each card links to the café.
Downtown, near the terminal
Lower Washington Street is where most visitors begin. These four are a short walk from Hoboken Terminal and the riverfront.

It aims to make its cafés feel like New York's specialty coffee bars. Its coffee is USDA Certified Organic and sold by the bag, by subscription and as a four-bag "Starter Flight."
The downtown café, which Forum calls Hoboken South, opened in 2025 at 123 Washington Street, in the space Pour Amour used to fill. A second café, Hoboken North, opened in July 2025 at 1400 Washington Street, inside the SoulCycle building at 14th Street. Order-ahead is available for both through Forum's site. Who will love it? Anyone who wants a polished, specialty-style cup within a few minutes of the train.

Getting there
Hoboken is one of the easiest New Jersey towns to visit without a car. PATH trains run from Manhattan to Hoboken Terminal at the city's southern end. The terminal is also served by NJ Transit rail and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, and NY Waterway ferries cross the Hudson to Hoboken. From the terminal, Washington Street runs north through the whole city, so you can walk from one end of this guide to the other in about half an hour.
The light rail also stops on the western side of town, including at 9th Street near Black Rail Coffee. Street parking is limited and mostly resident-restricted, so if you drive, plan on a municipal or private garage.
When to go
Weekday mornings bring commuters, and weekends bring the brunch crowd, so mid-morning on a weekday is the calmest time for a long sit. Spring and fall are perfect for walking a cup along the Hudson River waterfront, with the Manhattan skyline across the water. In winter, a pastry run to Choc O Pain makes a cozy reason to brave the cold.
