Dallas does everything big, but its best coffee houses are refreshingly small: a café run by a woman who grew up harvesting coffee with her grandmother in Honduras, a hotel espresso bar, a French coffee house hiding under a bridge. If you're searching for coffee shops in Dallas, Texas, the trick is to think in neighborhoods. This city sprawls, and each district has its own personality and its own favorite cup.
This page from my travel notebook is the Dallas coffee crawl I'd plan. It's for the weekend visitor in town for a concert in Deep Ellum, the traveler with a layover long enough to escape the airport, and the friend who wants to see the city one café at a time. You'll find Bishop Arts and Oak Cliff, downtown and Deep Ellum, the Uptown and Harwood districts, the Design District, and Lower Greenville and East Dallas.
How I picked these
These picks come from research, not from years of Dallas mornings. Every coffee house here was checked in 2026 against its own website, and cross-checked with recent Dallas coverage, including Paper City's July 2026 coffee list and CultureMap's 2026 Tastemaker nominees. I looked for independent and local cafés, a spread of neighborhoods, and places that say clearly what they do. A few well-loved names are missing because I couldn't confirm a current café on their own website. Hours change, so every card links straight to the café.
Bishop Arts and Oak Cliff
Across the Trinity River from downtown, Bishop Arts is Dallas's most charming walkable pocket: low brick storefronts, murals and independent shops. Start your crawl here.
Hola Café
Known for A family-run café co-owned by Jeniffer Avila, who grew up helping her grandmother harvest and sell coffee in Honduras; Latin-inspired lattes like the Dulce.
416 N Tyler St, Dallas, TX 75208
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
Hola Café is a family business with a beautiful origin story. Co-owner Jeniffer Avila spent her first 13 years in Honduras, where she helped her grandmother harvest and sell coffee beans to their community. She dreamed of opening her ideal coffee shop, and she now runs Hola Café with her husband, Danny. Their stated mission is simple: "to serve love to our community through coffee."
The Oak Cliff café sits at 416 N. Tyler Street in the Bishop Arts District. The menu leans Latin-inspired. There's a Dulce Latte made with condensed milk, brown sugar and cold foam, a rice-and-cinnamon espresso drink in the horchata style, and one built on Oaxacan chocolate. Matcha drinks round it out. Hola also has a second café in the lobby of the 1845 Woodall Rodgers building in Uptown, and that's the location that takes online orders.
Who will love it? Anyone with a sweet tooth, and anyone who likes a café with a family behind the counter. After your cup, wander the Bishop Arts blocks for boutiques and murals.
Wayward Coffee Co.
Known for A Dallas coffee company 'dedicated to community & quality', with rotating single origins, house-made syrups and a second café in the Design District.
1318 W Davis St, Dallas, TX 75208
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
Wayward Coffee Co. calls itself "a good coffee company in Dallas, TX dedicated to community & quality." Its Oak Cliff café is at 1318 W. Davis Street, a short walk from the heart of Bishop Arts. Paper City describes it as a bright spot with natural decor that rotates guest roasters.
The menu is a clean list of classics: espresso, cortado, cappuccino, Americano, latte and filter coffee brewed to order, with rotating single-origin options. Wayward makes all its syrups in house, with vanilla, lavender and simple syrup plus seasonal flavors, and it offers oat and almond milk. Teas come from Art of Tea in Los Angeles. Wayward also has a café in the Design District at 2025 Irving Boulevard, and it sells coffee and supplies from its roastery on N. Edgefield Avenue.
Who will love it? Purists who want a well-made cortado, and anyone curious to taste a rotating roaster lineup. Pair it with Hola Café for a two-stop Oak Cliff morning.

Downtown and Deep Ellum
Downtown Dallas runs straight into Deep Ellum, the old warehouse district now known for music, murals and late nights. These two make a natural pair.
Weekend Coffee
Known for The Joule hotel's espresso bar: artisanal espresso and house-made breakfast pastries in the morning, cold brew and matcha later, and a chai latte you can order 'dirty'.
The Joule, 1530 Main St, Dallas, TX 75201
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
Weekend Coffee is the espresso bar inside The Joule, a downtown hotel on Main Street, and its motto is "No more Mondays." The Joule calls it a caffeinated gem where guests and locals mingle. Start early with artisanal espresso and house-made breakfast pastries. Come back in the afternoon for cold brew and matcha, or end the day with what the hotel calls one of the city's best chai lattes. Going out later? The hotel suggests you order it dirty, with a shot of espresso.
Who will love it? Hotel-lobby people, design lovers and anyone downtown for a museum or a meeting. The Joule offers valet parking, which helps on a busy downtown afternoon. Weekend Coffee posts updates on Instagram at @weekendcoffee.
The Berni Bean Coffee Co.
Known for Costa Rican specialty coffee from a family that has worked in coffee for generations, with brunch, toasts and seasonal lattes.
2820 Elm St, Dallas, TX 75226
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
The Berni Bean Coffee Co. brings Costa Rica to Dallas. Its founders come from a Costa Rican family that has worked in coffee for generations. Born and raised in Costa Rica, they built the business around their family tradition and the motto "Pura Vida in every cup." The café says it serves only specialty coffee, meaning beans that score at least 80 out of 100 on the Specialty Coffee Association's scale.
There are two locations: the original downtown, at 400 N. St. Paul Street, and the Deep Ellum café at 2820 Elm Street. The menu leans into brunch, with a bagel sandwich topped with the house Berni Bean sauce and a croissant stuffed with mozzarella and egg. Seasonal lattes include a cardamom, lavender and brown sugar drink inspired by the Danish cardamom bun, and a banana bread latte made with real bananas and brown butter. Paper City reports that part of its profits supports rainforest preservation.
Who will love it? Brunch people and anyone headed to Deep Ellum for an afternoon of murals and live music.
Uptown and the Harwood District
Uptown is the polished, walkable district just north of downtown, and the Harwood District sits along its edge near Victory Park.
Magnolias: Sous le Pont
Known for A French-inspired coffee house 'under the bridge' in the Harwood District, with breakfast, sandwiches, local art, gifts and an events calendar.
2727 N Harwood St, Dallas, TX 75201

Magnolias: Sous le Pont is easy to spot by its teal façade. The name means "under the bridge" in French, and the café sits beneath one at 2727 N. Harwood Street. It calls itself the Harwood District's charming coffee house, and it's one of the district's concepts from Harwood Hospitality Group.
There's more here than coffee. Magnolias serves artisanal coffees, breakfast and fresh sandwiches and salads. It's also a curated creative space, with local art on the walls, everyday essentials, handmade gifts and quirky cards, plus a full calendar of events. The French inspiration carries through the design, and there's a daily happy hour. You can order online for in-store pickup.
Who will love it? Anyone who likes a café that doubles as a little shop. It's a sweet pick for a birthday card errand or a slow solo morning.
LDU Coffee
Known for A 'cheeky Australian take' on the Italian neighborhood espresso bar, built around fast, friendly grab-and-go coffee.
2650 N Fitzhugh Ave, Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75204
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
LDU Coffee calls itself a "cheeky Australian take on the classic Italian neighborhood espresso bar." Its focus is fast, friendly grab-and-go coffee, with service it describes as breezy and warm as the beaches back home. The tagline is the whole philosophy: "Coffee that tastes like coffee."
The flagship sits at 2650 N. Fitzhugh Avenue, a short drive east of Uptown, and Paper City notes LDU has several Dallas locations. The café's own suggestion is a flat white with toasted banana bread, which is about as Australian as a coffee order gets. Order ahead through Toast's Local app.
Who will love it? Anyone in a hurry who still wants a properly made flat white, and anyone who misses an Aussie café.
The Design District
Ascension Coffee Design District
Known for Craft coffee, wine and chef-made breakfast and lunch at the Design District home of a roaster that aims to support women coffee producers.
1621 Oak Lawn Ave, Dallas, TX 75207
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
Ascension Coffee is a Dallas name that goes back to 2012, when CultureMap says it helped pioneer the city's craft coffee scene. It now has several cafés across Dallas–Fort Worth. The Design District café, at 1621 Oak Lawn Avenue, is a full-service stop with craft coffee, wine and chef-made breakfast and lunch, plus a brunch menu. Ascension says it offers free valet parking at this location.
Ascension roasts its own coffee and says it aims to support women who grow and produce coffee, since women producers are often underrepresented in the industry. CultureMap singles out its horchata latte.
Who will love it? Anyone who wants a sit-down meal with their coffee, and design-district shoppers between showrooms. It's also an easy weekend brunch for a group.

Lower Greenville and East Dallas
Greenville Avenue is one of Dallas's liveliest dining streets, and the neighborhoods east of it hide two of the city's most serious roasters.
Café Duro

2804 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75206

The café describes itself as refined yet relaxed, and it's built for every hour of the day: morning espresso, an afternoon glass of wine or a light evening snack.
The menu celebrates simplicity, with pastries, breakfast bowls and small plates. You'll also find lattes, cocktails and wines by the glass, or a bottle to take home. Paper City notes its signature drinks include the 007 Espresso.
Who will love it? Anyone planning a date, and anyone who likes to linger from a cappuccino into an aperitivo. It's at 2804 Greenville Avenue in Lower Greenville.
JuJu's Coffee
Known for A tiny neighborhood coffee shop that roasts everything in house, with an East Dallas Blend for its espresso.
6038 La Vista Dr, Dallas, TX 75206
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
JuJu's Coffee calls itself "a tiny neighborhood coffee shop in dallas, tx," and that modesty is the charm. Paper City describes it as a husband-and-wife shop. JuJu's roasts everything in house, including its East Dallas Blend house espresso and a medium-dark Hasta La Vista blend, and sells single origins and seasonal blends in the shop.
It sits at 6038 La Vista Drive, in the leafy streets between Lower Greenville and Lakewood. It can get busy on weekends. The shop has occasionally paused mobile ordering to keep up with the crowds, so plan to order at the counter.
Who will love it? Neighborhood-café people, and anyone who wants beans from a true micro-roaster.
Cultivar Coffee
Known for An East Dallas micro-roaster founded in 2009, now pouring inside Goodfriend Package, with pour-overs and a bean shelf restocked every Saturday.
1155 Peavy Rd, Dallas, TX 75218
Checked against official sources Nov 2026
Cultivar Coffee has been roasting in East Dallas since 2009. It was founded by Jonathan Meadows and Nathan Shelton, two baristas and roasters who believed coffee deserved to be treated as a culinary experience. Like plenty of good companies, it started in a garage. Today its coffee bar lives inside Goodfriend Package, a scratch-kitchen deli at 1155 Peavy Road.
Cultivar pours handcrafted espresso and matcha drinks, plus single-origin coffees roasted in house, from classic lattes and drip to manual pour-overs. Pastries come from Doughregarde's Bake Shop, and breakfast sandwiches come from Goodfriend, made with Starship Bagels. The bean shelf is restocked every Saturday morning with coffee roasted just days before. A walk-up window serves coffee in the late afternoon.
Who will love it? Serious coffee people and anyone who likes coffee with a great deli breakfast. Buy a bag on your way out.
A Dallas coffee crawl I'd plan
Start in Bishop Arts with a Dulce Latte at Hola Café and a cortado at Wayward. Cross the river to downtown for a pastry at Weekend Coffee, then walk or ride east to Deep Ellum for a Costa Rican coffee at The Berni Bean. In the afternoon, head north to Lower Greenville and let Café Duro turn your coffee into a glass of wine. If you're a roaster person, swap the wine for a Saturday-morning bean run at Cultivar.
Getting around
Dallas is a driving city, but a coffee crawl can lean on transit. The Dallas Streetcar runs between Union Station downtown and the Bishop Arts District. DART light rail serves downtown and has a Deep Ellum station. In Uptown, the free McKinney Avenue Trolley is a charming way to hop between blocks. Lower Greenville, East Dallas and the Design District are easiest by car or rideshare.
If you're building a bigger Texas trip, my El Paso cafés guide covers the state's far western corner. My San Jose coffee shops guide does the same for Silicon Valley. And when you're back in New Jersey, start with the best coffee shops in NJ or a slow morning with the Hoboken coffee shops.
